Overview

This 11-day journey across Tajikistan combines the legendary Pamir Highway with deep cultural immersion and authentic experiences in remote mountain communities.

Travel through dramatic landscapes, from fertile valleys to high-altitude plateaus, following the Panj River along the Afghan border and exploring ancient Silk Road routes. Along the way, discover historic fortresses, Buddhist stupas, alpine lakes, and traditional Pamiri villages.

This tour also offers a unique opportunity to experience local life — from staying in family homestays to observing traditional farming, crafts, and nomadic culture in the Eastern Pamirs.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 – Dushanbe → Kalaikhumb

    360 km | 7–8 hours

    Drive east toward the Pamirs via Shurabad Pass. Visit Hulbuk Fortress (8th century) and continue along the Panj River.

  • Day 2 – Kalaikhumb → Bartang Valley (Hijez)

    248 km | 7–8 hours

    Journey into the remote Bartang Valley. Experience village life and traditional Pamiri culture in a homestay.

  • Day 3 – Gizev Valley Trek → Khorog

    Trekking + Drive

    Trek to alpine lakes in Gizev Valley. Continue to Khorog, the capital of GBAO.

  • Day 4 – Khorog → Ishkashim (Wakhan Valley)

    Explore Wakhan Corridor. Visit:

  • Day 6 – Murghab → Karakul Lake

    Cross Ak-Baital Pass (4,655 m). Visit Karakul Lake and experience nomadic life, yak herding, and local traditions.

  • Day 7 – Murghab → Khorog (via M41)

    Drive along the Pamir Highway back toward Khorog.

    Follow the Panj River and enjoy views of Afghan villages across the border.

    Return to Dushanbe through mountain valleys and scenic landscapes.
